Hard-work will bring you success:

We all have heard this most of the times that its only “‘hard-work that will bring you success” from our parents, teachers, our elders , our seniors at workplace and from any such individual who may be just one step above us. ( I’m not being sarcastic!!!)

Story of a SQUIRREL

Hard-work is noticed:

The king of the Jungle ,Leo-the lion noticed that “Nutter”the squirrel was  very hardworking and a simpleton squirrel. He was always on the go searching nuts, exploring various trees for food .He would always save them in his drey for the future. Leo promised Nutter ten big bags of nuts as a reward for his sincerity and hard-work. (time wasn’t mentioned!!). Nutter was all the more happier at the thought of receiving ten big bags of nuts and staying happy, relaxed for the rest of his life with his family.

 Hard-(Work in progress):

Everyday with the rising sun Nutter would be on his toes scaling the trees as high as he could. Many times he would try to reach more higher , scanning the jungle for nuts, carry them to his drey and store them for future days. He would work incessantly to build his ‘”bank” of nuts and also add those ten bags of nuts to his imaginary counting. His friends would call him to play , have fun. But Nutter wouldn’t join them. At times he would desire to enjoy with them, play and make merry. However with the thoughts of his nuts bank he would brush away such desires. He would convince himself telling “Not now. Later. when my nut bank gets full i ll enjoy, i ll play.” Not that the king would deny his promise. Leo was a just and noble king who always kept his words. But Nutter didn’t want to take chance. .He continued his hard-work.He was very precautious.

 Reward for Hard-work:

Three years passed thus. One fine day Leo the king called Nutter and asked him to come to the palace and collect his ten bags of nuts. His happiness knew no bounds. Nutter couldn’t wait anymore. He rushed to the palace and collected his bag of nuts. ( I feel any one would behave so. No need to scan the jungle, or scale the tall trees, play with friends, hop and skip and jump. O life is so beautiful !!) How happy my family would feel!  I need not slog anymore thought Nutter. All my hard-work has paid me more than i could ask for, he thought.

 

With happy thoughts he rested under a tree . “‘Let me crack the big nut and have for myself”‘ said Nutter to himself. Alas! He couldn’t. In his years of hard-work he failed to realize that he had grown old. His tooth shook. cracking nuts was very painful. Here he had ten bags of nuts of  best quality. Of what use ? The only consolation was his young ones , the baby squirrels can enjoy. His wife will do so till her teeth are strong enough to crack the nuts.

Nutter had put his heart and soul to build his nut-bank. He ignored those little moments of joy and happiness when his friends would call him to play. He did not spare any time for himself.  His priorities for his family was also compromised. Would those moments come back again? those friends? those little joy? happiness?

NEVER. NOT EVEN IN EXCHANGE FOR THOSE TEN BAGS OF NUTS.

We  the Nutter.

Aren’t we too like Nutter? As kids we are busy with studies, competitive exams, coaching classes. The students fail to find time for any extra-curricular activities. there is no hobby time.there is no break from books.Books which are a storehouse of information and knowledge are not interesting to read cause it is ”hard-work to score marks”‘ for exams.

As adults we are so busy with shaping our careers, working hard for promotions, salary hikes? Why? to secure our family?the future of our kids, for us to enjoy after retirement.We ignore our very own family cause we are working hard for them. we fail to realize the importance of family time that is being compromised.We just cannot stop to greet our elders,cause we are in hurry for a board meeting. we only stop when our health fails. the Physician advises us to walk. only then we begin to notice our surrounding and wonder at the flowers that are in full bloom.we begin to experience freshness in the air, but with medications.

And importantly “what about the bank balance”‘ for which we have comprised every little happiness? May be as simple as an evening walk with your spouse?or a movie with the family? or just reading a book? or spending time with our aging parents?

All  the wealth is passed to our kids who not always can value hard-work. At our cuspofdestiny  we are not in a position to enjoy all that we had dreamt of , or all that we missed out.

WE NEED TO BE BUSY, BUT AT TIMES WE HAVE TO BE-EASY ON LITTLE THINGS, LITTLE MOMENTS OF JOY AND HAPPINESS. EVERYDAY IS A NEW DAY. EVERY MOMENT IS BEAUTIFUL . ENJOY THE AWESOME GIFT OF LIFE. LET US ACTUALLY LIVE THIS LIFE.

LET NOT HARD-WORK  KILL  OUR LITTLE MOMENTS OF HAPPINESS. Let us invest our efforts , our energies for the betterment of our self, our children, our mother-land and the world at large. But let us also stop at times to appreciate the beauty of life, the wonderful Nature around us, the breath of fresh morning air, the hugs and kisses , the touch from our little ones…..
